One Accountable Crew for Your Burlington Oil Tank Project
We handle heating oil tank removal, installation, service, and leak response with directly employed crews and company-owned equipment. At Professional Tank & Environmental, every project remains in our hands from the initial assessment through the work performed at the property.
Our family-owned company was founded and is led by Brian J. Kuebler, who has more than 20 years of hands-on experience in the heating oil, storage tank, and environmental industry. We hold active New Jersey licensure, and our trained and certified installers and operators serve residential and commercial property owners. A free estimate at the property allows Burlington, NJ, customers to review tank conditions, service options, and anticipated costs before work begins.

Aboveground & Buried Tank Services
Older properties in Burlington County may still have buried heating oil storage tanks left behind after conversion to another heating source. Other properties continue to use aboveground or underground systems and need service, replacement, or closure work. We evaluate the tank and site before discussing suitable options.
Our services include:
- Tank removal: We remove aboveground and underground heating oil storage tanks, as well as underground gasoline and diesel tanks.
- Abandonment in place: When full extraction isn’t practical, we can cut and clean the tank before filling it with inert material.
- Tank installation: We install replacement tanks selected for the property, heating system, and available space.
- Tank service: We service heating oil storage tanks and associated components.
- Soil remediation consultation: We assess the next steps when staining, odors, or other conditions raise concerns about a possible discharge.
- Soil remediation: We provide remediation when contamination is found and environmental work is required.
Removal and abandonment in place are different closure methods. Tank condition, location, site access, and applicable requirements determine which method may be suitable. Available tank and product options include Granby, Roth, Specialty Tank & Welding, Tank Tub, and Tigerloop, although not every option is appropriate for every property.
Oil Tank Removal in Burlington
Tank removal begins with a free on-site estimate. We inspect visible conditions, consider access for personnel and equipment, and identify the work involved in the proposed closure. Property owners, real estate agents, and attorneys can also share available tank records or heating-system information during the visit.
Our removal process includes these core steps:
- We empty the tank and complete pre-excavation work with utility notification.
- We excavate the area and extract the underground tank.
- We send the removed tank to a licensed salvage facility for disposal.
- We backfill the excavation with screened topsoil.
- We provide remediation services when contamination is discovered during removal.
Our employees complete the physical work with equipment we own, providing one accountable company throughout the project. Trained and certified installers and operators perform the work, which keeps applicable tank and fittings warranties valid.
New Jersey Rules for Residential Buried Tanks
Residential underground heating oil tanks in New Jersey fall under the state’s Unregulated Heating Oil Tank program. At the state level, removal generally isn’t required when there’s no evidence of a discharge. The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection nevertheless strongly recommends removing an out-of-service buried tank because it can create liability concerns for insurance and mortgage companies.
Removal or abandonment of an underground storage tank requires a demolition permit application and permit issuance. New Jersey also requires a closure-certified individual working for a closure-certified underground storage tank firm to remove an underground residential heating oil tank. That individual must be present at the site during removal.
These closure-certification requirements are separate from our active New Jersey business licensure. Permit responsibilities, site conditions, and documentation should be reviewed for the specific Burlington property before work proceeds. The distinction is especially important during real estate transactions, when buyers, lenders, insurers, agents, or attorneys may review tank history and closure records.
24/7 Response to a Tank Leak
A leak can turn routine closure work into an environmental investigation and remediation project. We answer calls and emails 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and provide 24/7 emergency response for leaking tanks. Our immediate priorities are addressing the compromised tank and maintaining the property’s heat.
During an emergency, we can pump out the compromised tank and install a 55-gallon temporary drum connected to the existing boiler while replacement options are evaluated. We insulate the temporary oil line with Armaflex, a pipe-insulation material, to prevent the fuel from gelling. This temporary fuel arrangement is specifically part of our leaking-tank response.
If a discharge is discovered during removal, it must be reported to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection hotline. The matter then proceeds through investigation and any required remediation until the agency issues a No Further Action letter, its written determination that no further action is required. The scope and duration depend on the site findings and agency requirements, so a specific outcome or timeline can’t be promised.
